Job Description
General Statement of Duties: Under the general direction of the Branch director the incumbent is responsible for the day-to-day operations of the Wellness Department of the Wilson Branch of The Family Y including staff supervision, budget development and control, program development, maintenance and trial of equipment and membership relations and retention. This person will also serve as a Senior staff to lead Wellness programs across the organization. This position is key to a high functioning team at the branch level.
Supervision Exercised: 60+ part time staff employees
Typical Physical Demands: Standing, sitting, and walking with ability to lift up to 50 lbs, and demonstration of exercise equipment as well as conducting all levels of exercise classes.
Typical Working Conditions: Office/desk, outside environment, wellness floor, and off-site locations.

Interpret, communicate, and promote The Family Y mission, goals, and objectives to employees, volunteer, members, and the community at large.
Maintain a high profile among members for the purpose of being a role model of health and fitness.
Develop creative, innovative programs, training and classes within the wellness, group exercise and child watch area.
Lead person for Wellness in the organization.
Research trends and organize equipment trials to continuously stay cutting edge in Wellness.
Stay educated on current certifications needed for wellness staff.
Develop, implement and maintain the Budget for all areas of responsibility, holding staff accountable.
Manage DAXCO Member ST for all Department Program Areas.
Hire, train, schedule and supervise all wellness, fitness, and group exercise staff.
Oversee and design ongoing, up to date wellness and educational programs for adult members of all ages and physical conditions.
Develop and implement operation procedures for all aspects of the wellness center.
Keep current, accurate records and rosters of all wellness programs.
Keep reports and log books related to the maintenance of all exercise equipment.
Develop and oversee a wide range of special activities
Develop and oversee a program of physical education for homeschool families.
Perform building coverage on a rotating schedule with other professional staff.
Attends Branch Board meetings at the request of the Branch Director.
Maintain a cooperative working relationship with all staff, volunteers and members.
Accepts and demonstrates the Character Development Values of Caring, Honesty, Respect and Responsibility.
Actively participates and supports the annual scholarship campaign.
Performs all other duties as assigned
Education/Experience:
A bachelor’s degree in physical education, exercise science, athletic training, or other related field from an accredited college or university is preferred
A minimum of three years of professional experience with The Family Y or other YMCA association or other comparable organization
One to three years supervisory experience at a wellness facility required
Experience with volunteer, program and membership development
High degree of human relation skills, ability to effectively communicate and manage information to peers, staff and volunteers
Ability to handle multiple tasks, work independently, problem solve and possess effective management skills
