Performs installation; maintenance and repair of Network/Computer/Telecommunications infrastructure. 1. Installs; maintains and repairs voice; data and wireless communications systems. 2. Maintains telecommunications equipment and installs; rearranges and removes equipment and associated wiring. 3. Interprets service orders; circuit diagrams; and electrical schematics. 4. Tests; locates; and repairs equipment problems associated with trouble calls; and performs routine maintenance. 5. Verifies work order information and receipt of all necessary equipment and information. 6. Provides guidance and work leadership to less:experienced technicians. 7. Maintains current knowledge of relevant technologies as assigned. 8. Participates in special projects as required.Specific job requirements: 1. Working knowledge of OSHA and EPA directives applicable to outside communications cable plant work and work in confined spaces is essential. 2. Work experience that demonstrates duties are performed on outside cable. Documented work experience that includes lifting heavy objects of 50 pounds or more; and ability to operate hoists; cable trailers; trucks; winches and other bulk cable handling equipment is essential. 3. Minimum of three (3) years of recent experience in the installation; testing; troubleshooting; and repair of telecommunication outside plant infrastructure cabling. Experience shall encompass the use of both copper and fiber optic cable. 4. Experience with outside plant; plastic sheathed; copper telephone cable ranging from 25 to 2;400 pairs and outside plant; multi/single mode; fiber optic cable ranging from 12 to 288 strands is essential. The individual must have color vision to read color:codes and be able to trace color:coded pairs/strands. Recent experience is defined that the individual is currently; within the past year; performing outside plant cable technician/installation duties. 6. Experience that demonstrates proficiency with single mode and multi:mode fiber optic cable. 7. Experienced in the termination of fiber optic cable using termination methods such as 3M Hot Melt is required. Experience with fiber optic cable fusion:splicing techniques is essential. 8. Experience testing fiber optic cable to include the use of power meters and time domain reflectometers is imperative. 9. Work experience shall substantiate use of test equipment such as oscilloscopes; digital3:5 years of related telecommunications experience.
